My old daddy always told me to never give the other guy a stick to hit you with. Well, it seems that the Obama Administration has done just that!
Back in the heady days following his election as president of the United States, Barack Obama put forth many promises to assure the most ethical and transparent administration in history. First among his economic miracles was the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, better known as the Obama stimulus program. In keeping with his commitment to provide public accountability for stimulus spending, the http://www.recovery.gov website was created to trace the Administration’s success in invigorating the economy and creating jobs.
It is a great website. Extremely informative. And apparently designed to automatically update itself as new numbers become available. The only problem is that the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 turned out to be a disaster.
A total waste of money, and didn’t stimulate anything. But the website has kept accumulating the evidence, and obviously the Obama Administration has forgotten to take it down!
So it now provides an excellent indictment of the waste and corruption of the Obama Administration . . . and in their own words. The current gaggle of Republican presidential wannabes could turn this into a powerful weapon if they weren’t all caught up in trying to destroy each other!
Right on the first page, just below the REPORT FRAUD, WASTE AND ABUSE admonition, are the incriminating numbers:
Paid Out: $743,800,000,000
Jobs Created: 213,094
Now if my high school math is correct, that is a cost of nearly $3.5 million per job. Their numbers, not mine!
But you can go much further, and get a breakdown of monies spent by state and even by ZIP code! Since I am a resident of Tennessee, I naturally went there first:
Total Funds Awarded: $5,968,700,000
Recipient Reported Jobs: 4,848
Cost per job: $1,231,167.49
Well, at least we were below than the national average.
I dug a little deeper to get an idea of the type Tennessee firms that have been blessed with all this money.
They are listed alphabetically, starting with the As, naturally. Eighty-six As, to be precise. Here are just a few of them:
• A KIDS PLACE SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER INC
• ABUSE ALTERNATIVES INC
• ACTION SERVICES GROUP, INC.
• AFL CIO TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE
• AFRICAN AMERICA CULTURAL ALLIANCE IBE
• ALLIED ARTS OF GREATER CHATTANOOGA
• APPALACHIAN AQUATICS INC
• APPALACHIAN BEE FARM
• APPALACHIAN REGIONAL COALITION ON HOMELESSNESS, THE
• ASSOCIATION FOR VISUAL ARTISTS
Now I know nothing about any of these contractors. Never heard of any of them. But they don’t really sound much like the kind of firms you would expect to produce the promised “shovel-ready” jobs. No wonder Obama now says he couldn’t find any.
They sound more like the usual mushy left-leaning make-work project contractors we’ve come to expect to show up for government handouts. And I especially like the AFL CIO TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE contract — as if the AFL CIO needs any assistance.
President Obama is now running for re-election with the promise of another “stimulus” program. We have seen no evidence that a new stimulus will be any more effective than the last one. So, before they wise up, go ahead and use the stick the Administration has provided to defeat the President with his own numbers. And let’s hope one of the presidential hopefuls with conservative views discovers it too!
