Let’s start with fact #1: Not all Republicans are Conservatives, but all Conservatives, if they are anything, are Republicans. Why is that? Well, there is nowhere else for them to go. Wobbly as Republicanism can be at times, it’s the only home we have.
Fact #2. All Democrats are Liberals, and all Liberals are Democrats. Now why is that? Because they make it so! We have seen an excellent example this past week in how Democrat loyalty is maintained in their heavy-handed treatment of Cory Booker, the elected mayor of the city of Newark, New Jersey.
If you have ever been to Newark, then you know it isn’t exactly the garden spot of the New World. And just why anyone would want to attempt to be responsible for this cesspool of criminality is a mystery, but apparently Mr. Booker felt up to the task. He is a good man by most any standard. Well educated; with degrees from Stanford, Oxford, and the Yale Law School. He has all the credentials, plus one more – he is also an African-American.
That last qualification was probably instrumental in getting him elected to public office, but also got him in trouble with the Administration when he chose to disagree with the African-American in Chief, Barack H. Obama.
Booker has always been a strong supporter of President Obama. So much so that he was even offered a Czarship — an honor he declined. But when he chose to publicly criticize the President’s attack on Bain Capital, that was just too much. Did we really think that a President who has admitted eating dogs would hesitate at taking a bite out of a fellow Democrat?
Mr. Booker was in a bit of a bind. He wanted to support his President, but he had also benefited from campaign contributions from Bain Capital. So he went on NBC’s “Meet the Press” and made the mistake of telling the truth.
“I live in a state where pension funds, union and other people are investing in companies like Bain Capital. If you look at the totality of Bain Capital’s record, they’ve done a lot to support business, to grow business, and this, to me, I’m very uncomfortable with. … This kind of stuff is nauseating to me on both sides. It’s nauseating to the American public. Enough is enough. Stop attacking private equity.”
Other Democrats including former Democrat Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell, Sen. Chris Coons, D-DE, even Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-CA, all backed him up. Even Vice President “Slo-Joe” Biden has journeyed off the plantation once in a while, but they were not chastised the way the DNC thugs treated Booker. Why? The obvious answer is that they are all white, while Booker is black. It is one thing for a white Democrat to occasionally express his or her misgivings, but for a black American to disagree with President Obama is akin to treason!
It worked. It didn’t take long for Mayor Booker to see the light. To go on national TV to confess his error, and on Facebook and Twitter to send missive after missive in reversing himself, explaining that since Romney is running as a businessman, Obama should attack his business record and his former business associates. He even managed to blame his current embarrassment on the Republican Party by saying that he was “upset I’m being used by the GOP this way.”
So there you have it. Just another example of why there no straying Democrats, while we Republicans just wobble along, hoping for the best.
